Electrifying Harmonica With Hints Of Hendrix, The Influence Of Sugar Blue And True Talent Anchored In The Souls Of Chicago Blues Legends. Exceptional Harmonica With A Voice On Par With The Best Vocalists Anywhere!” Eric Steiner

Harmonica player and singer Russ Green came to the blues by an uncommon path. Born and raised on Chicago’s West Side, he didn’t begin playing music seriously until adulthood. After serving in the U.S. Army and studying film at Southern Illinois University, his desire to recreate the sounds of Jimi Hendrix led him not to a guitar, but to a harmonica. A pivotal night seeing Sugar Blue at Blues Etc. ignited a lifelong pursuit of the blues and shaped Russ’s musical vision.

After honing his craft in Seattle’s blues clubs, Russ returned to Chicago, where he learned from mentors Sugar Blue and Billy Branch while also building a successful career in film and television as an Assistant Director and DGA member. His credits include E.R., Prison Break, and feature films such as Road to Perdition, Save the Last Dance, and Tears of the Sun.

Musically, Russ has played, recorded, and toured with artists including John Primer and Lurrie Bell, produced an award-winning Blues Music Award CD for Big Llou Johnson, and appeared on the acclaimed Chicago Blues Harmonica Project. His album City Soul was named a top release by DownBeat Magazine in 2018 and one of Living Blues’ Top 60 Albums of the Decade. Russ Green has performed at major blues festivals across the U.S. and Europe, and his journey through the blues continues to unfold.
